Default [Guide] Guild Wars Errors - Explanations & Solutions

Guild Wars Errors

There are errors we commonly see in GW such as Err07, Err13 and the like. I'm wondering if we can try to track down the causes or the explanations for some of these errors as I think it would help. From just a few people we've come up with the following but I want to hear any other thoughts and theories on these:

CONNECTION ERRORS

Code=005 "Guild Wars was unable to connect to the game server due to a network error. This may be caused by internet routing issues or a server network failure."

Code=007 "Your connection to the server was lost. Please check your internet connection."
User's connection to the internet. *Seems to happen far too often to some high-speed users to be solely client-side.

Code=010 "Guild Wars was unable to complete the operation. Please try again in a few minutes".
Confirmed. User attempts illegal action. Example: Trying to enter mission when not in a mission outpost.

Code=011 "The password you have provided is not correct".

Code=013 "Guild Wars was unable to complete the operation. Please try again in a few minutes"
Confirmed. Guild Wars server you connect to is refusing connections or down.

Code=021 "The email address ???@???.com was not found".

Code=026 "DNS name lookup failure."
Mis-configured network setting or network interference, specifically a DNS problem.

Code=027 "Network error. Please check you connection to the internet and try again."

Code=058 "Guild Wars was unable to connect to any login servers. This is very likely caused by an Internet routing issue."
Mis-configured network setting or network interference.
Solutions and Explanations

These codes are your connection errors. Your signal is being interrupted to the Guild Wars servers and you become disconnected from the game. Usually you will be able to reconnect immediately. Being disconnected should only become a cause for concern if it is preventing you from playing, or if you are repeatedly disconnected.

Solutions from PlayNC Support include:

Code=007
  • If you connect to the Internet using a router please bypass your router and connect directly to your modem with an Ethernet cable. Please verify that you are able to browse to a website and then attempt to play the game. If you cannot browse to a website, please reboot your modem. After that is done reboot your computer and try the game again.
  • Make sure that any anti-virus or anti-spyware software you use is up to date and let it perform a full system scan.
  • Please disable all startup items to make sure that no background programs or processes are causing this problem. To do this, click on the Start button, select Run, type MSCONFIG and click OK. This should open the System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab and make sure that ALL entries listed are unchecked. Then click on the Services tab. Check the box to Hide All Microsoft Services and then click on Disable All. Once that is done, clicking either OK or Apply should prompt you to restart your computer, which you should do before attempting to play the game again. Do not start any other programs and then try the game again.
  • Be sure to have the latest drivers installed for any network adapters on your computer. Your computer manufacturer or the provider of your network adapter should be able to provide specific instructions for this step.
Code=058, Code=050
  • Make sure GW.EXE or GWSETUP.EXE is added to your firewall's exception list. If you have already allowed Guild Wars in the past, please double check the exceptions. Often times firewalls will decide to block Guild Wars after it has patched. If adding an exception does not help, please try completely uninstalling the firewall software.
  • If you are using a router, please open and/or forward both TCP port 6112 and TCP port 80 within their settings. If you are connecting to Guild Wars while on a campus or business network, please consult your network's administrator to verify that these ports are available. If you are using a NETGEAR® router please review the following article:

    Why am I unable to connect to Guild Wars while using my NETGEAR® router?

    If you are using a wireless router, try connecting your computer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable instead.
  • Try temporarily disabling any Internet Security or Anti-virus/spyware applications. If this resolves the connection issue, then you will need to properly configure these applications in order to enable them while you play Guild Wars. Please contact the author of the software if you do not know how to make these adjustments.
  • If your Internet Service Provider is America Online® and you are unable to use Internet applications outside of the AOL® client (such as Internet Explorer), please contact their Customer Support regarding this issue at http://www.aol.com/support/help.adp.
Code=026
  • The network error message you are reporting, Code= 026 (NET_ERR_NAME_LOOKUP_FAILED), is indicative of a mis-configured network setting or network interference, specifically a DNS problem. If you receive this error, please verify that you can browse to a website. Make sure to test a website that is frequently updated to ensure that you are not viewing a locally cached version of the page. If you cannot load the website please contact your Internet service provider.
GUILD WARS SERVER ERRORS

Code=004 "Guild Wars was unable to complete the operation. Please try again in a few minutes"

Code=040 "Guild Wars was unable to complete the operation. Please try again in a few minutes"

Code=072 "Guild Wars was unable to complete the operation. Please try again in a few minutes"

Code=015 "Guild Wars was unable to find the mission you requested. Please try again in a few minutes"

Code=019 "Guild Wars was unable to find the mission you requested. Please try again in a few minutes"

Code=029 "Guild Wars was unable to find the mission you requested. Please try again in a few minutes"
Solutions and Explanations

These codes are a Guild Wars server error. They can happen when there are updates, corrupted data or network issues. You must wait for them to resolve or a fix from ArenaNet before playing again.

ACCOUNT ERRORS

Code=021

Code=035 "You have been disconnected from Guild Wars because another client has connected using your account. Please try again later."
Solutions and Explanations

These codes are seen when another party connects with your account. If you did not authorize or give anyone else permission to use your account you will need to contact support immediately.
Code=141 "Your play time has ended. To continue playing, please purchase Guild Wars. See www.guildwars.com for more information."

BANS

Code=045 "Your account has been blocked due to unacceptable behaviour. You won't be able to log in again until the block expires. The first few times your account is blocked, you will be unable to log in for a few hours. Continued offenses will result in longer and longer blocks."
OR "Your account has been banned from Guild Wars for a breach of the User Agreement and/or Rules of Conduct. This ban is permanent."
Solutions and Explanations

This code appears when you have been banned from Guild Wars. If you feel you have been banned in error you can contact support. Please review the Guild Wars Rules of Conduct, Conduct Breaches and Outcome, and Guild Wars User Agreement.
CD KEY ERRORS

Code=102 Access Key Error

Code=103 CD Key in use

Code=105 Your account already has access to the rights this key provides.

Code=113 Access Key Error

Code=119 "Your account has already registered this key. Please keep the key in safe place; you can use it later to retrieve your password or to obtain support."

Code=122 Access Key disabled
Solutions and Explanations

These codes happen when there is an error with the 25 digit access CD key. It could be as simple as you mistyped a number or letter, or are trying to re-enter the CD Key when you have access. To resolve you will need to head to support and submit them:
  • Your 25 digit access key
  • E-mail address you used when trying to create the account
  • Name of the retailer from which you purchased your copy of the game
  • Approximate date of that purchase

Error 058: I had this problem when I was at uni. It was caused by my university blocking Guild Wars in some way, for security reasons. I don't know the exact way they blocked it, but they didn't block ports. They sniffed the packets I think, and the type of packet determined if it was allowed. This meant they could block BitTorrent, all p2p, hosting FTP, and all kinds of things, but the ports were left open. Note: this is mostly guesswork! Someone who knows more about this might know how they were blocking stuff.

Note that they didn't block Guild Wars, they said they blocked some security problem, and a side effect was that people couldn't login to any NCSoft game, don't ask me why. They were a bit vague about that kind of thing.

When I clicked 'login' on Guild Wars, it would get this error.

I'm sorry I don't know more about how it was blocked, but if you are playing on an educational/work network, and get this error, maybe it's for the same reason. Speak to the people responsible for your connection, because it got fixed eventually. Hope it helps someone.

If I'm not mistaken (I'll research it after posting this to be sure), Code 10 is an error you get when you try to do something you aren't supposed to. For example, someone using a farming bot that makes them go to Elona Reach. If they don't have Elona Reach, they get disconnected with that error. Another example is trying to start a mission while not in a mission outpost.

If I'm not mistaken, ArenaNet can and does use these to assist in finding botters. There's no reason anybody who ISN'T botting or doing something sneaky, should get Error Code 10's.

Also: STICKIED

I'm going to fool around and do stuff to intentionally get errors, and try to confirm some. When I do I'm going to edit your post with the confirmed cause and put confirmed next to it.

My Guild Wars is installed, and was working fine until yesterday. It now won't load and says it is "unable to install" like it isnt even installed yet. So I tried re-installing but the same message popped up when trying to connect to Arena Net so I can't get on at all. Any suggestions?

This could have possible negative side effects and shouldn't be the cause of the problems in most cases. In order to port forward, you'll have to disable DHCP, which means you'll need to set the internal IP for each computer on the network manually. If you don't, each computer will default to the same internal IP and while one or more computers are on and working online, you'll experience a lot of problems. Not to mention you'll then have an open port...

Most likely, they just blocked access to the servers, not for any security reasons, but because they didn't want all their bandwidth being used up by gamers.

In this case the use of Port Triggering would be the best choice if your routing device supports this otherwise you would indeed have to use static ip addresses in most instances. However some firms like ddwrt if you use a linksys router can actually continue to us dhcp and reserve addresses based on Mac Address.

I forgot what error I get, but sometimes I get an error saying the connection to server was lost. I don't know how this is happening because I have Ethernet, and my firewall is set to allow Guild Wars. Anyone know whats going on here?

Deep Packet Inspection, probably. (Filtering on the application level as well as protocol.) It's been a big buzzword with security products, and one of the marketing tricks was to tell unis they could use it to help control filesharing, which it can. All those applications are configurable on any modern operating system, but aren't encrypted, so it's easy to pick out ftp traffic, regardless of the port. It's computationally expensive (compared to regular statefull inspection) - and avoidable with suitable encryption schemes, at the cost of drawing attention to yourself for sending lots of encrypted traffic over non-standard ports.

You could also do it with traffic analysis. Few handshakes, followed by bi-directional floods of tcp and udp traffic = possible game. (Or possible VOIP, etc)

This is probably a frequent problem for people at colleges or workplaces. If your "Technology Contract" or "Acceptable Use Policy" or whatever your uni makes you sign to use their network forbids games, (it's kinda rare though), you're out of luck. It's mostly to control filesharing, which sucks up enormous amounts of a campus' bandwidth.

what that means is that someone in the world has already got a character with the name you want to use.
having 2 characters with the exact same name is not allowed but there ways round eg.
you want to be original playa but i am already using it so instead you can write original player, so just do the same thing with the name you want that is already being used

I was wondering if there are any dial-up users among us who play Guild Wars? because if so can you tell me how you keep your dial-up becuase when there are big updates it takes my comp 2hours to load it which is max.tme before i have to redial but when i try to do this it says i have exceeded my downlowad limit and cannot use my internet anymore so i have to pay for my internet again. is there any way to get around this without getting broadband?

Check if your provider has a dial-up package that allows unlimited download time. It will cost more, but solve your problem. Otherwise, there is no solution except broadband or continuing with your current setup.

Default 007 ugh

Hi,

I frequently get the 007 error. I thought it was my problem. Wrong!!
My guild friend who lives about 100 miles away will ALWAYS be
disconnected at the EXACT same time as me. Weird huh? On my side?
I dont think so. He doesnt even have to be in the same town or party as me.
His real life friend across town from him does not get disconnected though.
I dont yet know what connection they have cause i forgot to ask. I have
Embarq DSL (was Sprint DSL) at 1.5mb.

Kinda odd though.
Good luck all,
Strom
errr Dan

edit - Oh and my firewall is set to allow GW and so is my son's. Same connection, and we both will usually have some problems at the same time, but his will occasionally come out of it and mine will still 007.
